In 1949 our artist leaves Paris for Le Lavandou near St. Tropez on France's Cote d'Azur, where they live at the Villa le Pin. They are married on September 10, and begin their return to the U.S. later that month.

(1822 - 1900)
 

William Louis Sonntag Sr. was an American landscape painter. Born near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1822, he traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 21 and perfected his technique. Becoming an established and highly regarded landscape artist, he began making trips to Florence, Italy in 1853. Several of these trips were made with his friend Robert Seldon Duncanson.

Thomas Hill

(1829 - 1908)
 

Thomas Hill was an English-born American artist of the 19th century. He produced many fine paintings of the California landscape, in particular of the Yosemite Valley, as well as the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
